Appeal for information following robberies in Runcorn. Date published: 15th October 2019 1.41pm

Detectives are urging witnesses to come forward following two robberies in Runcorn.

The first incident occurred at around 6.30pm on Monday 14 October when a 12-year-old boy was walking on Tyrrell Way, towards the shops.

The boy was approached by a group of four unknown males, one of whom assaulted the boy while a second threatened him with a knife and demanded that he handed over his mobile phone.

The group were disturbed by an unknown man who was driving a white van and stopped nearby – they fled the scene empty handed.

A short time later, at around 8.40pm, a 15-year-old girl was walking in the Caesars Close underpass with her two teenage friends when she was approached from behind by an unknown male.

The male, snatched the victim’s mobile phone and made off on foot.

Detective Sergeant Robert McLoughlin, from Runcorn Beat Initiative Team, said: “These were terrifying incidents for all those involved and I want to reassure the community that we are doing all we can to locate those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.

“Extensive enquiries are being carried out in a bid to piece together as much information as we can about these incidents, which we believe could be linked.

“I would appeal to anyone who has any information regarding any of these incidents to come forward. Even the smallest amount of information can be useful when piecing together a case.

“I’m particularly keen to locate the driver of the white van who stopped on Tyrrell Way and disturbed the offenders.

“The same goes for any motorists with a dashcam who may have any footage which may aid the investigation.”

Anyone with any information in relation to the two incidents is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number IML-539198 for the incident in Tyrrell Way or IML-539226 for the incident on Caesars Close.
