Appeal for witnesses following serious sexual assault in Widnes Date published: 15th July 2019 9.57am

Detectives are appealing information from the public following a serious sexual assault in Widnes.

At approximately 3.30am on Sunday 14 July an 18-year-old woman was walking along Henderson Road when she was pushed to the floor and subjected to a serious sexual assault.

Following the attack the offender fled the scene in the direction of Cameron Road.

He is described as a white man, approximately 25 years old, of medium build and was wearing dark coloured clothes.

Detective Inspector Ian Whiley, from Widnes CID said: “The victim is traumatised following her ordeal and is currently being supported by specialist officers.

“I urge anyone who has any information which may assist with our enquiries to come forward.

“We want to speak to anyone who believes they may have witnessed something that is relevant to our investigation.”

Chief Inspector Simon Parsonage, from Widnes Local Poling unit said: “I would like to reassure the local community that incidents such as this are rare in the Widnes area and we are doing all that we can to establish exactly what has taken place."
