Witness appeal after jogger is assaulted in Winsford Date published: 19th February 2019 11.55am

Detectives investigating an unprovoked assault near to Cheshire Constabulary’s headquarters in Winsford are appealing for information from the public.

Between 9pm and 10pm on Tuesday 12 February a 21-year-old man from the town was jogging along Blakeden Lane near to the force’s dog kennels when he was assaulted by a small group of unknown males wearing dark clothing.

The incident left the man with an eye injury. He was treated at Leighton Hospital but has since been discharged.

Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened or anything else that may help their investigation to get in touch.

They also want to speak to anyone who believes they may know who the offenders are.

Detective Constable Chris Percival said: “This was a frightening incident that left the victim extremely shaken up and requiring hospital treatment for an eye injury.

“I would like to reassure the community that it is believed to be an isolated incident and we are determined to establish who was responsible for the unprovoked assault and make them face the consequences of their actions.

“Enquiries are ongoing and I urge anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident, or anything else that may be relevant to our investigation, to come forward.

“Perhaps you saw the group of two or three males wearing dark clothing that night, either before or after the incident occurred.

“I also appeal to anyone with any information regarding the identities of the offenders to contact us or the independent charity Crimestoppers.”
