Appeal after thieves target Runcorn pensioner Date published: 27th April 2018 2.58pm

Officers are appealing for information from the public after heartless thieves targeted an 80-year-old woman in Runcorn.

At approximately 3.00pm on Thursday 26 April the victim was home alone at her Sea Lane address when she heard loud banging on her front and back doors.

Fearing for her safety, the woman took her phone and hid in her bedroom. A short time later an unknown man entered the bedroom and snatched her phone; he then went on to search the room, taking with him a cash deposit box.

While the man was searching the room the victim fled the scene and sought refuge at a neighbours. As she fleeing the property, the victim noticed a second suspect in the hallway.

The first suspect is described as a white man, approximately 5’6” of large build with light coloured eyes. He was wearing a black woolly hat and black trousers; he also had a grey scarf covering his face.

The second suspect was a young man, approximately 5’1” tall in his mid-twenties, with dark eyes and tanned. He had dark curly hair and was wearing a dark hat and dark clothing. Both men are believed to have fled the scene in a white transit van.

Detective Constable Zoe Bowden said: “To stoop so low as to target a vulnerable pensioner in her own home is as despicable offence.

“The victim in this case has been left terrified as a result of her ordeal and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace the people responsible.

“Enquiries in relation to the incident are currently ongoing and I urge anyone with any information, no matter how small, to contact the team here at Runcorn on 101.”
