Man charged with attempted murder following incident in Runcorn Old Town Date published: 2nd May 2016 1.29pm

A 26-year-old man from St Helens has been charged with attempted murder following an incident in Runcorn Old Town.

At approximately 2.00am on Sunday 1st May 2016 officers from Cheshire Police were called to reports that a man had been assaulted on St Johns Street, Runcorn.

Officers from Runcorn Local Policing Unit attended the scene, along with colleagues from North West Ambulance Service, and a 32-year-old man from Runcorn was found unconscious in the middle of the road on St Johns Street.

The victim was taken to Whiston Hospital with serious head injuries; he is currently in a critical condition.

Following enquiries in the local area a-26-year-old man was arrested at an address near to the scene in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Following questioning Jack Cartwright, 26, of North Road, St Helens, was charged with attempted murder. Cartwright appeared at South Cheshire Magistrates Court on Monday 2nd May where he was remanded in custody; he is set to appear at Chester Crown Court on Friday 27th May 2016
