Widnes police investigating schoolgirl assault Date published: 2nd May 2018 10.59am

Detectives are investigating an assault in Widnes which was filmed and circulated on social media.

At about 8.10pm on Sunday 29 April officers were called to reports of a teenage girl being assaulted by a group of girls in a park at Upton Rocks, Widnes, around two hours earlier.

Following the assault the victim was taken to Whiston Hospital for her injuries to be assessed and has since been discharged.

The video footage circulated on social media has since been taken down.

Detective Inspector Ian Whiley said: “I would like to thank all those who have contacted the police to let us know about the assault and the video that was put on Facebook and to reassure them that we are currently investigating the incident in collaboration with the victim and her school.”
